CASPER — The newly formed Wyoming Oil and Gas Industry Safety Alliance (WOGISA) will hold its first meeting on July 22 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Casper from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

This event is for industry leaders, employees, contractors, and support organizations interested in participating in this newly formed organization, which is of special interest for members of management and safety leaders in the oil and gas industry.

In 2009, Wyoming was identified as the state with the highest rate of worker-related fatalities in the oil and gas industry. As a result, Gov. Freudenthal created the Wyoming Workforce Fatality Prevention Taskforce. Among the taskforce’s final recommendations was the formation of an industry/Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) alliance.

The alliance is designed to foster a work environment that relies upon open communication and trust between industry and Wyoming OSHA.

The kickoff meeting will serve as an information sharing opportunity for industry leaders to consider forming a regional Safety Network. The governor is scheduled to attend.

The event is free of charge; to register online, go to www.wwcc.wy.edu/ptce/wogisa.htm
