Yellowstone breaks June record — again

Yellowstone breaks June record — again

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

By MJ Clark

Recession? What recession?

That's what the concessionaires in Yellowstone National Park seem to be saying, as they enjoyed the busiest June on record with almost 700,000 visitors. This is the second year in a row that June visitation has shattered records, and the third time in four years.

Traffic was up at all four entrances, with double-digit increases reported through the East and Northeast entrances. The West entrance remains the park's busiest, with more than 280,000 visitors streaming through West Yellowstone, Mont.

Visitation for the first six months of the year (five of which are snow covered) topped the 1 million mark, up 5.3 percent over the same period a year ago.

July is typically the park's peak visitation month, followed by August, June, September and May.
